Stig A. Eriksson – Curriculum Vitae

I have a M.A. in Elementary Drama from University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, from 1979; and I have a Ph.D. in Drama Education from Åbo Akademi University – Vasa, Finland, from 2009). I am currently Professor Emeritus in drama education and applied theatre at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, Institute of the Arts (HVL Bergen). Here I take an active part in the research group at HVL: Play, playing and participatory learning, and take part in Ph.D. tutoring in the applied drama field.

I am an experienced drama teacher and educator, and have lectured and presented workshops in a number of national and international conferences and institutions, in about 30 countries. My research interests are related to historical and actual developments in the field of drama/theatre and education, including the broad field of applied drama/theatre.

In 2008-2010 I was involved in the EU-funded international research project DICE (Drama Improves Lisbon Key Competences in Education, 2010: http://www.dramanetwork.eu/). In 2011-2013 I was involved in an Arts Education Didactics research program on Theatre as Bildung within the faculty, and co-editor of the anthology Teater som danning (Fagbokforlaget 2013). And in 2014-2017 I was involved in a national research project: Drama-Theatre-Democracy, and co-editor of the anthology Drama, teater og demokrati (Fagbokforlaget 2017): http://prosjekt.hib.no/drama/aktuelt/. Also, in 2016-2022, I have contributed to UTFORSK - a research project between Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, Bergen and Shanghai Theatre Academy.

I was project co-ordinator of IDEA’s 4 th World Congress in 2001 in Bergen and producer of the congress handbook and congress video.
